ARTISAN SASH CO
Terms & Conditions
1. Estimates & Quotations
All quotations are valid for 30 days unless otherwise agreed.
Quotations are based on a visual inspection of the windows. Due to the age of traditional timber sash windows, additional defects may only become apparent once work has commenced.
Any additional work required outside the agreed quotation will always be discussed with the customer before proceeding.
2. Restoration Works
Artisan Sash Co specialises in the restoration and repair of traditional timber sash windows.
Unless otherwise stated, a full overhaul may include:
-
Removal of sashes, beads, cords, pulleys and weights.
-
Timber repairs where required.
-
Sanding and preparation.
-
Priming and finishing coats.
-
Rebalancing of sash weights.
-
Replacement sash cords.
-
New pulleys where required.
-
New furniture where specified.
-
Replacement of broken glass where agreed.
-
Putty repairs where necessary.
Every quotation will clearly state exactly what is included.
3. Traditional Timber Windows
Our work restores existing windows.
Traditional timber windows are often over 100 years old and contain natural movement, historic repairs, previous paint layers and imperfections.
Restoration is intended to preserve the character of the window while returning it to good working order.
Small imperfections consistent with the age of the window should be expected.
4. Hidden Defects
Hidden rot, failed joints, damaged glazing bars or concealed defects may only become visible once the window has been dismantled.
Where additional repairs are required, the customer will be informed before further work is undertaken.
5. Paint Finish & Sight Lines
Artisan Sash Co produces straight, neat sight lines designed to provide a professional finish while protecting the glazing putty.
A small overlap of primer and paint onto the glass is intentional. This seals the putty line and helps protect the glazing from water ingress.
Where historic putty lines are uneven, the finished paint line may not follow every irregularity exactly.
Customer requests to alter completed sight lines or reduce paint overlap for cosmetic preference may be treated as additional work if the original finish has been completed to the agreed standard.
6. Putty Work
Unless full re-puttying has been included within the quotation:
-
Existing putty may remain.
-
Historic undulations may still be visible.
-
Minor imperfections may remain after painting.
Where complete re-puttying is carried out, putty requires time to cure before reaching its full hardness.
7. Glass
Original glass is handled with great care.
Due to its age and condition, original glass may contain hidden weaknesses.
Whilst every precaution is taken, Artisan Sash Co cannot accept responsibility for breakages caused by pre-existing defects within historic glass.
Replacement glass will be charged only where breakage is not caused by negligence.
8. Moisture Movement
Timber naturally expands and contracts throughout the year.
Minor movement, hairline cracks and localised paint movement may occur after completion due to seasonal changes and existing moisture levels within the timber.
These are characteristics of traditional timber windows and not necessarily defects in workmanship.
9. Colours
Colours should be agreed before work commences.
Customers should understand that colours may appear different depending on lighting conditions.
10. Access
Customers agree to provide safe access to all work areas.
Curtains, blinds, furniture and ornaments should be removed where possible before work begins.
Where assistance is required, Artisan Sash Co will help wherever reasonably practical.
11. Timescales
Estimated start dates and completion dates are provided in good faith.
Due to weather, timber condition, material availability and unforeseen repairs, dates may occasionally change.
Customers will be kept informed throughout the project.
12. Snagging
Customers are encouraged to inspect the work with Artisan Sash Co upon completion.
Any snagging items should be reported within 14 days.
Reasonable snagging will be rectified promptly.
Requests for alterations to the agreed finish after completion may be considered additional works.
13. Payment
Payment terms will be stated on each quotation.
Unless otherwise agreed:
-
Deposit payable before booking.
-
Interim payments where applicable.
-
Final balance due upon completion.
Late payments may incur statutory interest and recovery costs where applicable.
14. Photography
Artisan Sash Co may photograph completed works for use on its website and social media.
No personal information or house numbers will be published without permission.
Customers may request that photographs are not used.
15. Warranty
Artisan Sash Co warrants that workmanship will be carried out with reasonable care and skill.
This warranty does not cover:
