Sash Window Restoration in Langport | Five Original Timber Sash Windows Restored in Drayton

Some projects are memorable because of the transformation. Others are memorable because of the people. This one was both.
We were invited to Mark and Trish’s beautiful conservation home in Drayton, just outside Langport, to restore five original timber sash windows and their traditional timber porch. Like many period properties, the windows had suffered from years of wear. They had been painted shut, sash cords had snapped, putty had failed and areas of timber needed repairing.
Despite their condition, we could see straight away that these were original windows worth saving.
At Artisan Sash Co, we specialise in sash window restoration in Langport and throughout Somerset, helping homeowners preserve the original character of their properties through careful restoration rather than unnecessary replacement.
Before the Restoration

Before any restoration could begin, every window was carefully inspected to understand exactly what was needed.
Years of built-up paint had stopped the sashes from opening properly, broken sash cords meant several windows no longer operated as they should and failed putty had left parts of the glazing exposed to the weather.
There were also areas of timber decay that needed repairing before the windows could be protected for the future.
While many companies would recommend replacing windows in this condition, our approach is different. Wherever possible, we restore the original timber, preserving the craftsmanship and character that make period homes so special.
The Finished Result

The transformation speaks for itself.
Five original timber sash windows that had become difficult to use are now operating smoothly again. The repaired timber blends naturally into the original joinery, the fresh finish has lifted the appearance of the property and the restored porch completes the front of the house beautifully.
Most importantly, Mark and Trish still have the original windows their home was built with, restored instead of replaced.
What Made This Project Special
The quality of the work is something we’re proud of, but what we’ll remember most about this project is Mark and Trish.
From the first morning to the last afternoon, they made both me and my partner feel completely welcome. They were kind, full of laughter and genuinely excited to see their home being brought back to life. It never felt like we were simply working on another house; it felt like we were helping people who truly cared about preserving their home.
Those are the projects we enjoy the most, and it’s exactly why we started Artisan Sash Co.
